DESTINATIONS
El Fuerte: This is a cute
colonial town just 1 hour North of
Los Mochis and shouldn't be
missed. There are plenty of
activities here and a two night stay
is highly recommended so that
you can take advantage of a River
Tour, Kayaking Tour or just a day
to get over your jetlag in a nice
environment.
Cerocahui: Lovely mountain top
village in the upper sierra. We do
recommend a visit here if you have
itinerary. This town is located near
Urique Canyon. Due to the
ruralness of the area, a fully
guided trip is recommended in
this area.
Posada Barrancas:
Divisadero area, just 3kms from
Divisadero train stop. This is the
rim of Tararecua, Urique & Copper
canyons and you'll find several
One night is generally enough
One night is generally enough
here as it will allow you to splurge
a bit on one of the rim view hotels
and then move on to other
interesting places.
Creel: There is much to see and
do here but if you are going to
Batopilas, then you should spend
one night here before and one
night after. If, however, you are not
going to Batopilas, then 2 nights is
what you'll need here as a min. to
see as much as possible. An extra
day here, if you have one to spare
in your itinerary, is great too as you
can do some horseback riding,
biking, etc...
Batopilas: This is an old silver
mining village and well worth a 2
night visit at least. The Lost
Cathedral and Ruins of Hacienda
San Miguel are a must see and
there is a lovely old aqua duct to
walk along so you can see the
tropical birds up close.
Chihuahua: This city has a lot
of history and culture and is a
great place to spend a final day
after visiting the canyons. Pancho
Villa's House (Museum), The
Federal Building with Hidalgo's
Dungeon and Quinta Gameros
are just a few of the notable
museums one should visit if
interested in Mexico's culture and
history. One night here is usually
enough if you plan a private
transfer from Creel to Chihuahua
so you can arrive in time to see the
sights a bit or if you catch an early
morning bus.

- Best Western - This hotel is the best in the city limits and although a
'chain' hotel, it is locally owned and operated and his it's own Mexican
flavor for sure. It is set up in a cabin-style setting on a wooded lot on the
main street in Creel. There is a restaurant, bar and jacuzzi on site.
Transfers to and from the train station are included in your room rate. $$
- Parador Hotel - A secondary option for Creel if you wish to book in
advance as we don't work with any truly budget hotels here due to past
bad experiences. This hotel is located on the main street in front of our
Creel Amigos office. There is ample gated parking a restaurant and bar.
Breakfast is included here as well as transfers to and from the train
station. $$
- Sierra Lodge Hotel - our favorite in the area and an 'Amigo Pick'. This
hotel is located just 30 minutes outside of Creel on the road to Batopilas.
It is rustic but well appointed and comfortable and a great hotel if you are
looking for more than just a place to lay your head for the night. The
Raramuri live and work there and kerosene lanterns are used throughout
the hotel instead of electric lights, which give it a cozy and homey feel.
Complimentary margarita's are served before dinner nightly and all
meals are included. Transfers to and from the train station in Creel are
NOT included in the price here but will be added in to your itinerary as
needed. $$$
Activities - that can be done in the Creel area include:

- Private Transfer to Chihuahua - instead of taking the train or bus,
consider a private vehicle transfer from Creel to Chihuahua with a stop off
to see the Mennonite Community in Cuahetemoc instead. It is much
more comfortable and will get you where you are going faster and in
more comfort than the public transportation system.
