|
Your trip starts out from the airport in Los Mochis. You'll be met outside
Baggage Claim and will be whisked away to the colonial town of El Fuerte, just
1.5 hours away.
A great local restaurant tonight is El General or La Diligencia, both just on the
main plaza.
Have breakfast on your own this morning, where ever you like and then we'll
see some beautiful birds and relax as you float down the El Fuerte River OR if
you prefer to be a bit more active, you can swap out the River Tour for our
Guided Kayak Tour.
A self-guided Historic Walking tour of the downtown area is in order for the
afternoon and happy hour with Zorro is fun at the Posada del Hidalgo.
Sleep in El Fuerte again.
Restaurant suggestions provided.
Breakfast is included at your hotel, then you'll be picked up swept away to
the charming Alpine Village of Creel just an hour away by vehicle. En route,
you'll see the sights in Divisadero such as the Balancing Rock and the
Divisadero overlook and the Oteros Canyon Overlook outside of town.
Arriving in Creel around noon, you'll check into the Best Western Hotel and
have the rest of the day free to look around on your own. The 3 Amigos office
in Creel can give you free maps and information, as well provide you with a
bicycle rental today so you can peddle out to the Valley of the Mushrooms,
Frogs and Monks all on your own and get a bit of exercise at the same time.
Lunch and dinner are on your own where ever you'd like today in town.
Day 1:
Day 2:

Restaurant inside La Choza Hotel as they do breakfast very well. You'll be
picked up and taken to the train station at 8amish. (You'll have Train Ticket

they are guaranteed). This train line is an engineering wonder and is said to
be one of the best train rides in the world. You should plan to eat your lunch
on board the train so when ever you get hungry just mosy into the dining car.
You'll travel today to Posada Barrancas train station where you'll disembark
and be picked up by the hotel. Mirador Hotel or Mansion Tarahumara,
depending upon availability, will be your destination hotel today. Both are
perched on the edge of the canyons here and over a bird's eye view of the
canyons. Dinner is included at this hotel and you'll arrive in time to do a bit of
hiking on the area along the rim.
Day 3: (D)

springs in the canyon that has a temperature of about 100 degrees. Then,
you'll follow your guide up and out to Cusarare Waterfall and eventually back
to the Lodge. A sack lunch from the Lodge is included today and although
your Raramuri Guide does not speak English (Spanish only), he will be able to
tell when you are tired and need a rest. This is a really great Independent
experience with a local Indian guide. Total hiking time is about 8 hours and is
considered moderate with many ups and downs. ( If you do not wish to hike
so extensively today, you can let the hotel manager know that you wish to do
a lighter hike around the upper sierra area to include the waterfall/lodge area
loop instead.) Margaritas await you at 6:30pm and dinner again at 7pm
tonight.
After breakfast on your own today, take off for Batopilas if you already have
your Amigo Truck, or wait for your driver to pick you up if you've chosen a

Arrive in Batopilas and check into your beautiful hotel, The Riverside Lodge
(Real de Minas is substituted when the Riverside is closed from May to
August). This was once a private Hacienda that has been turned into a

and features murals and private gardens. It is quite a treat in itself just to
stay here.

Creel and stop in the Cusarare area. If you are being driven, you will have
seen the Cusarare Waterfall already on the way down to Batopilas. If you are
driving yourself, you should have saved this waterfall for after lunch today so
that you can walk there. The Sierra Lodge Hotel is set in the woods of the
Cusarare area. This hotel is considered rustic, though well appointed and
uses no electricity. All light is by kerosene lanterns that are lit for you in your
rooms and along the walkways. There are fireplaces or pot bellied stoves in
each room. Complimentary margarita’s are served before dinner. The dining
area is part of a central public room that boasts a large fireplace that is kept
roaring in winter and meals are cooked and served by the Raramuri Indians
who live in the area so you will get to have a close encounter with some of
them without being pushy.
